    The Laws of Subtraction:

Recently there has been a large influx of people asking me, "How do I become more sustainable?" Such peculiar words: "sustain" and "able". Are we able to sustain ourselves? As a consumer (like most of you reading this newsletter), an alchemist and a designer, I often refer to "the laws of subtraction" when making decisions. When you look at most of the problems we are trying to solve, most of them can be traced back to their roots of over-abundance. We drive too much, we spend too much, we eat too much, and we even talk too much. On the other hand, you never hear anybody say you "love too much" or you "listen too much". Wouldn't that be nice? I'd retire if that happened. So in the end you could spend the rest of your lives in the eco-rabbit hole that I live in, constantly searching for the next big solution, or you could live by one simple rule: buy less, love more. Think of all wrapping paper and ribbons you'll save. True love is always beautifully packaged.

All my love to you and yours,

    Dear Friends,

Aphorism ~ noun: A succinct statement expressing an opinion or a general truth.

As we walk through life as conscious beings, we collect and create aphorisms. In modern times, we like to put these at the end of our electronic communications to state who or what we believe.

All too often I feel that the true meaning of these aphorisms are lost in "translation," so to speak.

We are at a time in human existence where we must continually seek the truth as the beacon that guides us, not only through our own darkness, but also through others' darknesses. To overcome this, we must focus on the solutions, not the problems. This path will inevitably create prosperity for all instead of just for some. I'm not saying to ignore the issues at hand, but to utilize our limited time to accentuate the positive and to inevitably eliminate the negative.

Find and identify what or whom you believe in and trust that, through this path, the world will find its own salvation. Seek solace in your truth and not in the problems that surround it.

I encourage you to "buycott" (not boycott) - vote with your dollars to make your statement.

    Warmly,
