My family has a tradition that on Thanksgiving, we go around the table and everyone has to say at least one thing for which they’re thankful. This year it will be a struggle to not launch into a diatribe of all that we have to be appreciative for. I, for one, am a very blessed person and I know that there are a lot of positive things happening that I haven’t really acknowledged yet.
For instance, the environment is now a topic of high priority that is receiving a lot of attention both here in the U.S. and abroad. While there are practices that are still happening that are hurting the environment, what I am pleased about is the fact that we are hearing about them! There is more and more conversation happening about the environment and with this conversation comes awareness. It’s a step in the green direction, folks! As we delve full on into the holidays, keep the earth in mind and consider some of the following- using potted plants from the garden for table decorations; when planning your menu, shop at your local farms or participate in community supported agriculture (CSA); perhaps even revisit the old Christmas tree and reflect on how much more less consumptive it may be to use boughs of pine around the house, instead of an entire tree (or perhaps consider planting a living Christmas tree in your garden for years to come!).

Another thing to be thankful for is the increasing prominence of companies (like Pangea) who are committed to not only protecting the environment, but to providing excellent and safe products. I am thankful that I can get great skincare while using organic products. Remember, you can plant the packaging and have a little bit of Pangea always with you beautifying your life!

And, of course, there are family and friends. The people we choose to surround ourselves with make up our own personal environment and we need to be as conscious and considerate of them as we are of the earth. This year, I’ll be giving away green gifts as a way to show my loved ones that I appreciate them at the same time that I am respecting our planet. I especially like their idea of a 'slow holiday' and how they have arranged gift ideas per interests and personality characteristics!
Although we do have this one day set aside on which to acknowledge all the great things in our lives, I think that there is plenty we can be thankful about every day. After all, thankfulness, also known as gratitude, has been shown to have its own health benefits.
What are some of the things for which you are thankful this holiday season? How do you say thank you?
Thanks to Hjem and massdistraction for the pictures! Laura
